From February 15 till February 18, 2012, association „Latvian Rural forum" organized an international conference "Local Identity Product (LIP) - sustainable support systems for communities in Europe", which brought its participants in a wintery journey from capital city Riga through Bauska to Aizkraukle district.

Conference invited its' participants for a debate about local food, which has been an actual discussion topic in Latvia during the last year, but hadn't been seriously analyzed until now - what is local food and LIP support systems?

The main objective of the conference was to show that Local Identity Product (LIP) should play a significant role in economic development of local territories. Conference aimed to analyse existing schemes and mechanisms of LIP recognition and support in different EU states.

During the conference, the participants jointly searched for appropriate policy support instruments for LIP promotion and realization mechanisms. As well through individual experiences of different states the impact of national level and EU policies on the viability of LIP were analyzed. As a summary of disscusions during the conference a Report of recommendations for national and EU level policy will be drafted and approved.
